One of the primary advantages of using a smartphone is that it is tied to the University phone directory, so you can use your Miami phone number for University activities
- Miami's telephone system supports two softphone applications: Jabber and Webex

Jabber Desktop can be used by
- Anyone who has an assigned University phone extension
  - Note: Jabber has a maximum of eight phone extensions
- Anyone in a call center
Jabber is recommended for
- Anyone who wants a simplified phone-only application
- Anyone who has issues using Webex
