Use Cisco AnyConnect VPN on Windows

Issue/Question

  • How do I use the Cisco AnyConnect VPN client on my Windows PC?

Environment

  • Cisco AnyConnect VPN
  • Windows PC

Rationale

  • Miami has an Internet Firewall that restricts the functions that can be performed by computers that are NOT directly connected to Miami's network. VPN allows a computer connecting from off-campus to behave as if it is on-campus.

Resolution

  1. To open the VPN client, go to the Start menu and select Programs
  2. Select Cisco
  3. Select Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client
  4. The Connect To field should be pre-populated with muvpn.miamioh.edu; if not, enter the value into the field
  5. Enter your Miami UniqueID and MUnet password, and then click Connect
  6. After a few moments, the window will disappear
  7. You will see the Cisco AnyConnect VPN lock icon in the Windows System Tray, near the clock in the bottom-right of your screen

Disconnect VPN

  • To close the VPN connection, right-click the Cisco AnyConnect VPN lock icon, and select the Disconnect option
