Problem

  • How do I configure an Android device for secure access to MiamiOH-Secure?

Resolution

  1. From your home screen, tap Settings
  2. Select Network & Internet
  3. Be sure to enable (toggle on) Wi-Fi
  4. Select Wi-Fi
  5. Tap and hold all the non MiamiOH-Secure networks, and select Forget
    • Removing these MiamiOH networks from your remembered networks ensures that your device will stay connected to MiamiOH-Secure
    • A network that does not offer Forget as an option is already forgotten
    • You may need to forget MiamiOH-Secure if you do not have the latest Cert installed
  6. Once you've forgotten all non MiamiOH-Secure networks, select MiamiOH-Secure
  7. Scroll down the list to configure these settings:
    • Set EAP method to PEAP
    • Set Phase 2 authentication (if applicable) to MSCHAPv2
    • Set CA Certificate as Trust on First use if available, older Androids may need to use the Do Not Validate Option, you may see a prompt asking you to trust the cert on the screen.
      • Android 7.0 (Nougat) users: Change the certificate to Don't Validate
      • Android 7.1 and 8.0 (Oreo) users: Change the certificate to Do Not Validate
      • Android 10 and above users: Change the certificate to Don't Validate
      • Some Android-based devices may require the user to select Use System Certificates before being able to select Do Not Verify
      • Some older Android-based devices may require the user to select Use System Certificates before being able to select Do Not Verify
      • Android 13 and above should require the Trust on First use option
    • If a domain is required, use radius.miamioh.edu
    • Enter your Miami UniqueID for Identity
    • If your device has an Anonymous identity field use your UniqueID
    • Enter your MUnet password for Password
    • You do not need to adjust any settings under the advanced section
  8. Tap Connect to save your configuration settings and connect to the network
  9. If you have previously failed at connecting you may have to wait for three minutes before a successful attempt will work
