Determine your UniqueID

Using the UniqueID formula

  • Your Miami UniqueID is generated using data from Human Resources or Registrar files. It generally consists of the first six characters of your last name, your first initial, and your middle initial.
    • example: The UniqueID for John Q. Public would be PublicJQ
  • In some cases, your UniqueID will not follow the formula, if the same formula was already used to create a UniqueID for someone with a similar name. In that case, use one of the following methods to determine your UniqueID

Using the UniqueID Lookup tool

  1. Follow this link oto the Miami UniqueID Lookup tool
  2. Follow the instructions on the page to search for your UniqueID

Searching for yourself in the directory

  1. Follow this link to the Miami directory
  2. Ensure that Miami People is selected, then enter your name, as you gave it to the Registrar, Academic Personnel Services, or the Department of Human Resources
  3. Directory results will appear. If more than one name matches, select the correct name from the list
  4. Look for the UniqueID line in your entry

Notes: This option is not available if you have requested to be hidden in the directory. Incoming students are not listed in the directory until August 1

Determine your MUnet password

  • By default, your MUnet password is derived from your birth date and Social Security Number as follows:
    • Your two-digit birth month, followed by your two-digit birth day , followed by  last four digits of your Social Security Number OR last four digits of your Banner ID number—sometimes referred to as your Banner "plus" number
  • Examples:
    • A birthdate of March 1 and a Social Security Number of 123-45-6789 results in a default MUnet password of 03016789
    • A birthdate of March 1 and a Banner ID number ending in 1234 results in a default MUnet password of 03011234
  • If your password is at the default value, you will be required to change it after logging into a web-based service. You can change your MUnet password at The MUnet password utilities page
    • You can also use this page to reset your password if you have forgotten it
