Overview

Miami University provides approximately 120 channels of entertainment, information, and educational television programming via two distribution systems: traditional cable television and Apogee Stream2 streaming service (Internet Protocol Television or IPTV). Traditional cable television service is available in some administrative, athletic, and academic buildings. 

Students living in the Oxford campus residence halls have access to the Stream2 Miami University – Personal line-up, which includes DVR service. Administrative, academic, and residence hall common areas have access to the Stream2 Miami University – Community line-up of approximately 90 channels.

Traditional cable television service is available in a limited number of buildings having access to the Traditional Cable line-up.

Cost

  • There are no direct charges to departments or students for cable television or Stream2 service through existing MUnet video jacks

  • Traditional cable television is available in a limited number of facilities for academic, athletic, and administrative purposes

 

Transitioning from Traditional Cable Television to Stream2 

  • For staff offices and common/other areas, academic and administrative divisions and departments can purchase a Roku device to connect their television to Stream2
  • Faculty and staff accounts will be provisioned upon request
    • Faculty and staff can access Stream2 directly by going to MiamiOH.edu/tv and signing in with their Miami credentials
    • Click the Request Help button to request access

 

Stream2 Television (IPTV)

  • Stream2 is the exclusive television service in all residence halls
    • Students should consult their Resident Director if they want to add a channel to a common area Roku that requires a pin
  • Stream2 is available in academic and administrative buildings upon request
  • What type of technology will you need to use this service?
    • You can watch Stream2 online via most popular web browsers, or on Android and iOS native apps available for free download to your mobile devices
    • You can also watch Stream2 on traditional TV sets via a Roku device, a iOS mobile device, or a compatible macOS computer
    • You cannot watch Stream2 using a VPN connection
    • Stream2 is not supported on the Safari web browser
  • Resident students can access Stream2 by going to MiamiOH.edu/tv and signing in with their Miami credentials
  • Stream2 Support can tell you most everything else you want to know

 

Traditional Cable Television (i.e., Marcum Conference Center and Intercollegiate Athletic facilities)

  • What type of technology will you need to use traditional cable television?
    • Use a digital television with a QAM digital tuner — you can purchase a converter from popular electronics retailers
  • How do you get started?
    1. Connect your TV/device to the coaxial V1/V2 jack
    2. Set your TV/device input mode to CATV, cable, or (on some models) STD
    3. Run the auto-program feature to make sure your television is receiving all Miami channels
