Add video to Studio / Canvas

Problem

Resolution 

Add video to Studio library

To add a video in Studio, refer to the Canvas Guide for uploading files to Studio or follow this procedure:

1. Click the Studio link in your Canvas Global Navigation menu 
2. Click the + Create button, select Add Media, and then select Browse Files
3. Locate the video file on your device and click Open or Upload
4. Once the upload is complete, click the thumbnail in your library to view the media. It is now available to share with a user in Studio, embed in a Canvas course,* or submit to an assignment
   • Go to the Details tab and click Edit Details to edit the video title and/or the description and add tags
   • Review media captions on the Captions tab. Quality captioning is required for videos added for instructional purposes to ensure equal access to all course content:​​​​​​
     • In Studio, auto-generated captions are added to your uploaded files by default​​​​, but should be reviewed and edited for accuracy:

     • If your media file is already captioned, you can upload your caption file to Studio:

*Instructors adding Studio media to a course to share with students must embed the media on a Canvas page, discussion, assignment, etc., for students to view. Students do not have access to the Studio link in the course navigation to view a Course Collection (as they did with the Kaltura Media Gallery)

Add YouTube or Vimeo video to Studio library

1. Click the Studio link in your Canvas Global Navigation menu 
2. Click the + Create button and select Add Media
3. Enter or paste your video link in the "YouTube or Vimeo Link" field and click Add Video
4. Once the upload is complete, click the thumbnail in your library to view the media. It is now available to share with a user in Studio, embed in a Canvas course,* or submit to an assignment
   • Go to the Details tab and click Edit Details to edit the video title and/or the description and add tags
   • External video links cannot be auto-captioned, but you can manually create captions or upload a caption file to Studio:
