Purpose and Overview

Wi-Fi is one of the most important network utilities IT Services provides to the University. As more coursework and administrative actions take place online, it’s imperative to have access to a robust, reliable network capable of handling heavy load.

There are several different networks at Miami that you will come in contact with:

  • MiamiOH-Secure: The main network that you will use for most of your devices and purposes
  • MiamiOH-MyDevices: For devices that cannot log into MiamiOH-secure
  • eduroam: A network supported by a large number of universities around the world. Using your Miami email address and password, you can log in to the eduroam network at any campus or location that offers it
  • MiamiOH-Visitor: A secure visitor network that doesn’t require login for friends, colleagues, parents, and guests

Features and Benefits

MiamiOH-Secure, MiamiOH-MyDevices, and eduroam

  • ​​​Stream 4k video at all times of the day and night across all Oxford and regional campus locations
  • No throttling or data caps
  • Same service in popular outside spaces as inside
  • Seamlessly roam from location to location without dropping service

MiamiOH-Visitor (formerly MU-GUEST)

  • Meets basic needs for university visitor; minimal buffering while streaming
  • Available all times of day and night across all Oxford and regional campus locations
  • Speeds capped at 15 Mbps
  • Inactivity timeout 2 hours
  • Maximum connection time 8 hours
  • Same service in popular outside spaces as inside
  • Seamlessly roam from location to location without dropping service

Eligibility and Audience

  • MiamiOH-Secure: Current students, faculty, and staff with Miami email accounts should connect to MiamiOH-Secure.
  • MiamiOH-MyDevices: Devices, such as gaming consoles, smart TVs, may be automatically identified when connected to the MU-Gaming network. If not, students, faculty, and staff may register a device to use this network.
  • eduroam: If your home school participates in the eduroam network, you may log in with your full email address and password from that school.
  • MiamiOH-Visitor: Open a web browser to accept the terms of use if you are a campus guest, such as parents, family, friends, and visitors.
    Note: Students, faculty, and staff should avoid using this Wi-Fi network because it is slower and has other limitations.

Getting Started and Support

To get started with Wi-Fi services at Miami University, follow these steps:

  1. Connect to MiamiOH-Secure using your Miami username and password
  2. Register Devices that cannot connect via MiamiOH-Secure, eduRoam, or MU-Visito
  3. Guest Access: Visitors can connect to the MiamiOH-Visitor network by opening a web browser and accepting the terms of use.
