Procedure: CIT Server / Remote access on Windows

  • To provide instruction on accessing the CIT server on Windows


  • Computer and Information Technology (CIT) Faculty, Staff, and Student


  • Personally Owned Computer 
    • Windows
  • CIT Server



  1. If you are off-campus, connect to the Miami VPN
  2. Use the Windows search box to locate Remote Desktop Connection
  3. Open Remote Desktop Connection
  4. In the lower-left corner, click Show options 
  5. Enter in the Computer name field
  6. For the username, enter your Miami UniqueID with an IT\ before it
    • Example: If your UniqueID is smithxyz , your field should contain IT\smithxyz
  7. Click Connect
  8. In the dialog box requesting your credentials, click More choices in the lower-left and click the option that begins with IT\
  9. Enter your MUnet password
  10. Click Ok 
    • Note: You will get a DUO prompt; the default is a Push notification
