Canvas / Allow a student to take the final exam in a closed course

Objective

  • To provide instruction on extending a closed course to allow a student extra time to take the final exam

User

  • Canvas Instructor

Environment

  • 10185: Canvas

Cause

  • Canvas course sites automatically close at the end of each term. You must extend the end-date of the course and the section to allow a student to take an exam

Resolution

  1. Before you can allow a student to complete work on a closed course, you must extend the end-date of the course and the section. If the course has ended you need to submit a ticket to request the course be reopened by a Canvas Admin. If the course is open follow the steps in these Canvas Guide articles:
  2. Your student can now complete their work, and you can adjust grades
  3. When finished, be sure to set the course end-date back to the end of term
