Connect to network file storage in macOS / File Storage

Problem

  • How do I connect to and map a network drive in macOS?
  • I want to connect to network file storage from a macOS computer
  • I want to access network file storage on MyFiles or MUFiles

Resolution

Map Drives via Finder

  1. To access your Finder menu, click once on your desktop or click the Finder icon (two-face cube) in your Dock
  2. From the Finder menu bar, click the Go tab and select Connect to Server
  3. To connect to departmental file space, enter smb://it.muohio.edu/files/MUFiles
  4. To connect to personal file space, enter smb://it.muohio.edu/files/MyFiles/M, replacing the letter M with the first letter of your UniqueID 
  5. At the login window, enter your Miami UniqueID and MUnet password in the appropriate fields and click Connect
    • Your network drives will appear in your Finder window

Notes

  • To access network drives from a residence hall or an off-campus location, you must first connect to the Miami network through VPN
  • Network file storage is available to faculty, staff, and students on myFiles 
  • Faculty and staff may also have departmental network file storage on MUFiles
