Resolution

• The option to add a peer review component is available in assignments and discussions in Canvas, including group assignments and discussions. Students can only view peer review assignments after they have submitted work to the assignment or discussion. Refer to the Canvas Guides for more information:

• You can manually assign peer reviews to students or have Canvas automatically assign them on a specific date. If no date is selected, the reviews are assigned to the assignment or discussion due date. If a student submits the assignment or discussion after peer reviews have been assigned, you must return to the assignment to assign a peer review for the late student, even if you've selected to automatically assign peer reviews. To avoid this extra step, Miami Online recommends setting both a due date and an availability date for the assignment or discussion, with the "available until" date a day or two after the due date. You can then set the date for peer reviews to be assigned to match the available until date. Review the Canvas Guides for more information:

• As peer reviews do not have a separate due date by default, you can create a reminder page in Canvas with the link to the peer review assignment and select to add it to the student's To-Do list. If you wish to grade the peer review separately from the assignment submission or initial discussion replies, you can create a No Submission type assignment that links back to the peer review assignment:

Notes

• Canvas recently released an update to peer reviews known as peer review allocation and grading. This update aims to help alleviate the late-submission issue and provide options for review due dates and peer-review grading. This update is currently available as a feature option that instructors can enable at the course level, but it will not become the default experience in Miami's Canvas instance until further testing is complete
