Report a suspicious or phishing email message / Security

Problem

• I need to report a suspicious email to the IT Services Security team
• I received an email that appears to be spam
• I received an obvious phishing email
• I want to report a phishing email 
• I want to report a suspicious email from a trusted source
  • Examples: President Crawford, One Stop, etc. 
• I have received a suspicious message that appears to have been sent through Canvas

Resolution

Check the Phishbowl

1. Visit MiamiOH.edu/Phishbowl to see if the message is on the list of valid, legitimate messages that look suspicious
2. If it does not appear, use the following guidance

Message may be legitimate

1. Forward the message to phishbowl@MiamiOH.edu
2. Request clarification: Is the message legitimate?

Message asks you to click links, download attachments, or provide confidential info

1. Forward the message to phishbowl@MiamiOH.edu
2. In the Gmail message, click the  menu icon next to the  Reply icon
3. Select Report phishing from the drop-down

Message does not exhibit any of the above-noted characteristics

1. In the Gmail message, click the  menu icon next to the  Reply icon
2. Select Report spam from the drop-down
