Security / Report a suspicious or phishing email message

Objective

• To provide instruction on reporting a suspicious email to IT Services Security team when you receive:
  • An email that appears to be spam
  • Any suspicious email
  • An obvious phishing email

• 10262: Google Mail (email e-mail)

Resolution

Message may be legitimate

1. Forward the message to Infosec@miamioh.edu
2. Request clarification: Is the message legitimate?

Message asks you to click links, download attachments, or provide confidential info

1. Forward the message to Infosec@MiamiOH.edu
2. In the Gmail message, click the  menu icon next to the  Reply icon
3. Select Report phishing from the drop-down

Message does not exhibit any of the above-noted characteristics

1. In the Gmail message, click the  menu icon next to the  Reply icon
2. Select Report spam from the drop-down
