Using the Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client

Intro

Miami has an Internet Firewall that restricts the functions that can be performed by computers that are NOT directly connected to Miami's network. VPN allows a computer connecting from off-campus to behave as if it is on-campus.

Details

  1. Open the VPN client.
    • Mac OS X: Start the VPN client by clicking on the Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client icon located in your Applications folder, under Macintosh HD.
    • Windows: Start the VPN client by going to the Start menu, select Programs, select Cisco, select Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client.
  2. The Connect to: field should be pre-populated with muvpn.miamioh.edu. Otherwise, type the value into the field.
  3. Enter your Miami UniqueID and MUnet password, and then click Connect.
  4. After a few moments, the window will disappear.
    • Mac OS X users will see a lock icon in the Apple toolbar (near the top-right of your screen).
    • Windows users will see a lock icon in the Windows System Tray (near the clock in the bottom-right of your screen).

Disconnecting VPN

  • To close the VPN connection, simply right-click (control-click for Mac OS X users) the Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client lock icon, and select the Disconnect option.
