Two-Factor Authentication

Purpose and Overview

Miami University's Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) service provides an additional layer of security for accessing university systems and applications. Using a secondary verification method, such as a mobile push notification or passcode, 2FA helps protect sensitive data and prevent unauthorized access.

Eligibility and Audience

This service is available to:

  • Students, Faculty, and Staff: Required for accessing Miami University systems.
  • Guest and Sponsored Accounts: Upon request and approval.
  • International Students: With available temporary bypass options where applicable.

Getting Started and Support

  1. Enroll in 2FA: Set up your preferred authentication method here.
  2. Manage Devices: Update or change your authentication settings via the DUO self-service portal, which cannot be directly accessed. See further instructions for details
  3. Enroll a New Device: If you have replaced the device you previously used for accepting DUO pushes, you can add the new device via the DUO self-service portal, which cannot be directly accessed. See further instructions for details
  4. International Access: Request a temporary bypass for regions with restricted access.

Accepted international students currently in China may use this form to request a temporary bypass of the Duo two-factor authentication system until such time as they arrive on campus. Enroll in Two-Factor Authentication
When you use your Miami UniqueID and MUnet password to log in to certain Miami services or applications, you will be prompted to enter a six-digit single-use verification code or approve via a push notification to a mobile device.
