Objective
To provide instruction on setting up and enrolling an additional device for use on an existing Duo account
Add a second device to an existing Duo account
Add a tablet to an existing Duo account
Add a mobile phone to an existing Duo account
Add a hardware token to an existing Duo account
Enroll my new phone in Duo to an existing Duo account
Scope
Duo Security is the system-wide, two-factor authentication security application used at Miami University
All
current
Miami University students, faculty, and staff are required to use Duo for authentication when accessing Miami systems
Environment

Duo Mobile App
Android, iPhone, or Windows smartphone
Android or iOS tablet
Mobile Phone (cell phone other than a smartphone)
YubiKey 4 or 5 Series Security Key
YubiKey hardware token
U2F hardware device
U2F authenticator
U2F security token
Rationale
After you've enrolled your primary device for use with Duo Security, MUIT recommends that you add a second device to your account. This will give you the ability to log in to your applications if the device you use regularly to authenticate is damaged, lost, or forgotten
You must be enrolled in Duo before you can add a secondary device
Duo works with your smartphone, mobile phone, tablet, or U2F hardware token and supports a variety of authentication methods
Resolution
After initial enrollment
You
must
follow these KB instructions to access Duo's Self Service Portal

access Duo's My Settings & Devices by direct URL
Add an Android, iPhone, or Windows smartphone (Duo Mobile)
In Duo's Self Service Portal on your computer, select
Duo Mobile
as the type of device you want to add
Enter the area code and phone number of the smartphone you want to enroll
Click the
Continue
button
Check the box to confirm that you have entered the correct phone number
Confirm that you have ownership of the phone number by clicking the Send me a passcode button
Enter the passcode sent to your phone and click the Verify button
Download and install the Duo Mobile app on the smartphone you want to enroll
Go to the app store for your device and search for
Duo Mobile
(
not
the Google Duo app!)
When prompted, allow Duo Mobile to take pictures and record video
Click the
Next
button
Confirm that the Duo Mobile app is installed on your smartphone and click the
I have Duo Mobile Installed
button
Locate the QR code in the activation window
In the Duo Mobile app on your smartphone, tap the
+
(plus-symbol) button
Hold your phone to your computer screen so that your device camera can scan the QR code
A check mark indicates that you successfully scanned the code
If you cannot scan the QR code, click the
Or have an activation link emailed to you instead
link and follow the instructions
Click the
Continue
button to complete the addition of your device
Look for your new device
Add an Android or iOS tablet (Duo Mobile)
In Duo's Self Service Portal on your computer, select
Duo Mobile
as the type of device you want to add
Click the I have a tablet link below the Continue button
Click the
Continue
button
Select the type of tablet that you want to enroll:
iOS
or
Android
Click the
Continue
button
Download and install the Duo Mobile app on the smartphone you want to enroll
Go to the app store for your device and search for
Duo Mobile

not
the Google Duo app!)

Look for your new device under
My Settings and Devices
Add a YubiKey 4 or 5 Series Security Key (U2F hardware device)
Insert the hardware token into your computer's USB port
In Duo's Self Service Portal on your computer, select Security key
A pop-up window will appear on-screen to complete the enrollment
If you don’t see a pop-up window, temporarily adjust your browser settings to allow the pop-up window to be displayed
The system will automatically contact your token for approval
If necessary, press the button on the hardware token to complete the enrollment
