Objective
To provide instruction on setting up and enrolling a mobile phone for use with Duo Security
To provide instruction on setting up and enrolling a cellphone (other than a smartphone) for use with Duo Security
Scope
Duo Security is the system-wide, two-factor authentication security application used at Miami University
All

Miami University students, faculty, and staff are required to use Duo for authentication when accessing Miami systems
Miami's alumni, retiree, and emeriti populations are
not
required to enroll in Duo and will continue to use their Miami password

Mobile Phone (dumb-phone, cellphone other than a smartphone)
Rationale
Two-factor authentication adds a second layer of security to your Miami account. It allows you to verify your identity using a second factor — your smartphone or other mobile device — and prevents anyone else from logging in to your account
Duo works with any mobile phone — a cellphone other than a smartphone or a smartphone without the Duo Mobile app — by supporting authentication via SMS text message
Resolution
Open a supported browser: Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Internet Explorer 8 (or later), or Opera
If you have already enrolled in Duo,
follow these KB instructions to access Duo's Self Service Portal
If this your first time enrolling in Duo, log in to any Miami University system using your UniqueID and MUnet password
Click the
Start setup
button
Select
Mobile phone
as the type of device you want to add
Enter the area code and phone number of the mobile phone that you are enrolling
A check-mark
is confirmation that you have entered the number in the correct format
Verify that the phone number is correct, and check the box to confirm that you have entered the correct number
Click the
Continue
button
Select
Other (and cell phones)
as the type of mobile phone you are enrolling
Click the
Continue
button
On the
My Settings & Devices
screen, select the authentication method you want to use
Click
Continue to Login
to complete your enrollment
You will receive on-screen verification that you have enrolled successfully
Click the appropriate button to authenticate your identity and complete your login
