  • To provide instruction for creating or modifying a Miami email alias

Guidelines

  • Email aliases based on name must include the full last-name and at least one character of the first-name or nickname
    • Acceptable examples: 
      • JohnSmith@MiamiOH.edu
      • JRSmith@miamiOH.edu
      • John.Smith@MiamiOH.edu
      • J.Smith@MiamiOH.edu
  • The email alias must comply with Miami University's Responsible Use of Computing Resources policy and not be reflective of a copyrighted or commercial entity or trademark
  • An email alias cannot be comprised of University standard abbreviations or names that are normally reserved for University departmental or divisional use
    • Invalid examples:
      •  john.helpdesk@MiamiOH.edu
      •  john.helpdeskmanager@MiamiOH.edu
      •  SupportDeskManager@MiamiOH.edu
      •  john@MiamiOH.edu

Resolution

  1. Log in to the Miami Directory
  2. In the left sidebar, select Login
  3. Select My Entry
  4. Scroll to Contact and Personal Information
  5. Select Edit Contact and Personal Information
  6. Scroll down to the Email Aliases 
  7. Create up to six email aliases by typing them in the appropriate fields
  8. Select the radio button the corresponds to the e-mail address you want to be displayed in Miami Directory
  9. Click Submit
