Request: Canvas / Create a new site

Request

  • I require a new Main course site to develop or edit course content
  • I need a sandbox site to share content from a previous course with a colleague
  • I want a project course site that can be shared by multiple instructors

User

  • Canvas Instructor, Faculty, Staff

Rationale

  • Canvas course sites are automatically created for all courses listed in Banner once the course schedule is published. Instructors are added to the Canvas site if they are the instructor of record in Banner
  • Additional users should not be added to course sites with student information in accordance with FERPA guidelines, whether current or past courses
  • Canvas Instructor (faculty and staff) may request the creation of a Canvas project course site for purposes such as course development, sharing information, employee training, or committee collaboration
    • If a student wishes to request a project site, a faculty or staff member must serve as the sponsor and site owner

Resolution

  • Complete and submit your request for a Canvas project course site
    • If assistance is needed to share content, include identifying information for the content to be imported (i.e., term, course, section)
    • If requesting another instructor's content, include written approval by the instructor or the department chair (if the instructor is no longer at Miami)
  • Miami Online will create the site and add the requester
