Request a recovery key for macOS / FileVault

Problem

  • How do I obtain a FileVault recovery key to unlock an encrypted disk when I have been locked out of the system
  • I was locked out after restarting my system — it is asking me for a FileVault recovery key

Resolution

  1. To request a recovery key, complete and submit the form for requests requiring photo identification
  2. Under Password Reset Request Type, check the box to select Other
  3. Provide the following reason for making your request: Locked out of encrypted disk

 

Contact your local desktop support representative

  • Local desktop support will, in most cases, have access to recovery keys and may be contacted for assistance if you are unable to access a locked disk
