Notice of Intent to Decommission: Oracle Enterprise License

Objective

  • To inform the Miami community and technology partners that the Oracle Enterprise license will expire in June 2028 and at that time, we will no longer be using Oracle databases

Notice of Intent to Decommission

  • Oracle Enterprise Environment

Cause/Rationale

  • As Miami transitions to the Workday Cloud ERP from Banner, the need for Enterprise Oracle licensing will be reduced or eliminated. The resulting cost recovery will be allocated to Workday licensing after related expenses are funded.
  • Miami needs to shift its Oracle products (e.g., databases, Oracle Analytics Server, APEX, OEM) to other solutions to manage and retain required information in the most cost effective and sustainable methods

Notes

  • IT Services will not be purchasing any software, services, or resources not specifically required for the rationale above, other than the cost of project team staff assigned to this project
  • Please contact IT Services or your local technology representative if you have any questions about an application that may be affected. Alternatives like MariaDB may be available

User

  • IT Services developers and technicians
  • Asset owners for apps using Oracle databases
  • Requesters and business owners of apps using Oracle databases

System

Impacted services include:

  • Banner
  • Oracle Analytics Server (BI)
  • Most applications that use Oracle Enterprise databases
