Configure AppPortal apps in Windows

  • Miami's AppPortal technology streams applications to your computer or device, making the application appear as if it is running from your computer or device


Configure AppPortal

  1. Open the Control Panel
    • Windows 7: Click the Start button; then select Control Panel
    • Windows 8/10: Press the Windows-key + x to open the system utility settings menu; and then select Control Panel
  2. Click the RemoteApp and Desktop Connections link
    • Note: If you cannot locate link, use the Search box and begin typing RemoteApp and Desktop Connection
  3. In the left navigation area, click the appropriate link:
    • Windows 7: Set up a new connection with RemoteApp and Desktop Connection
    • Windows 8/10: Access RemoteApp and Desktop Connection
  4. Enter the address in the text box 
  5. Click Next
  6. Click Next again to continue
  7. When prompted, enter your Miami credentials as follows:
    • Enter IT\ followed by your Miami UniqueID.
      • Example: If your UniqueID is doejd2, enter IT\doejd2
    • Enter your MUnet password, and then click OK
  8. In the RemoteApp and Desktop Connection summary box, click Finish


Launch an AppPortal Application

AppPortal applications are in your Start menu or Windows 8 Apps screen

  1. To locate apps, click Start
  2. Click All Programs
  3. Click RemoteApp and Desktop Connections
  4. Click Miami Resources, or locate the Miami Resources category on your Windows 8 Apps screen
  5. Click the application you want to run.
    • You may receive a "trust" warning. It is safe to continue with the connection. You can also select the checkbox Don't ask me again for remote connections from this publisher



  • Administrative application access: Access to some applications (e.g., course enrollment, membership in departmental groups) requires authorization. The following list implies the parameters that provide network access, but not necessarily authorization to use the applications:
    • Native Banner: Available only on wired professional networks or through AdminVPN with special access
    • MInE: Available only on wired professional networks or through AdminVPN with special access
    • Kronos: Available only on wired professional networks
