Canvas / Allow a student to take the final exam in a closed course

• To provide instruction on extending a closed course to allow a student extra time to take the final exam

Cause

• Canvas course sites automatically close at the end of each term. You must extend the end-date of the course and the section to allow a student to take an exam

Resolution

1. Before you can allow a student to complete work on a closed course, you must extend the end-date of the course and the section. If the course has ended you need to submit a ticket to request the course be reopened by a Canvas Admin. If the course is open follow the steps in these Canvas Guides.

2. Your student can now complete their work, and you can adjust grades
3. When finished, be sure to set the course end-date back to the end of term
