Download and install MATLAB on macOS

Issue/Question

  • I want to download, install, and activate MATLAB on macOS
  • I received an error when I tried to activate MATLAB on macOS

Environment

  • Software for Personally-owned Computers
  • 336976: MATLAB
  • macOS 

Cause

  • Newer versions of macOS may generate an error, stating that the license file could not be written when attempting to activate MATLAB. To work around this, follow the steps below

Resolution

Install MATLAB on macOS

  1. Download MATLAB
  2. Double-click the downloaded DMG file
  3. If the DMG file did not auto open double click it under Locations in Finder
  4. Secondary-click  (right-click) the installer and select Open
  5. Follow the prompts to install MATLAB

 

Activate MATLAB with your MathWorks account

  1. In the MATLAB window, select Log in
    • If you do not have a MathWorks account, follow the steps below to create an account before attempting to activate MATLAB
  2. Follow the prompts to log in to your account
  3. If prompted for an activation key, look for a text file located in the folder that you created with your download
  4. Click Next

 

Create a MathWorks account

  1. Select Create an Account
  2. Follow the prompts to create your account
  3. Check your email for a message from MathWorks, which will contain instructions for verifying your account
    • If you do not receive your MathWorks, check your spam folder for the message
