Scope

  • The service offering within Institutional Software provides a path to request the transfer of a software license due to staff turnover or due to a new device deployment, as well as a method to confirm if a valid software license exists
    • Examples of software with high frequency requests include Adobe Acrobat Pro (perpetual license), Adobe subscription-based products, Visio, Filemaker,  Microsoft Project, etc.
  • Provide staff, faculty, office with a way to transfer a software license
  • Provide a mechanism to check on an existing software license before making a purchasing decision

Resolution 

Confirm software license

  1. Go to the Confirm and/or Transfer Software License request form
  2. Update the Individual and Acct/Dept field(s), if appropriate
  3. Select the License Confirmation radio button
  4. Complete all mandatory fields
  5. Provide any additional information/comments that may help us in fulfilling the request

 

Transfer software license

  1. Go to the Confirm and/or Transfer Software License request form
  2. Update the Individual and Acct/Dept field(s), if appropriate
  3. Select the License Confirmation radio button
  4. Complete all mandatory fields
  5. Provide any additional information/comments that may help us in fulfilling the request

 

Notes 

  • If a purchase was made outside of Buyway or without MUIT's involvement, we may not be able to assist or track down the information
  • If the software licensing agreement does not allow for transfer or reassignment of a license, we may not be able to perform the requested transfer or reassignment

The Institutional Software service at Miami University provides access to standalone applications that support teaching, learning, and administrative functions. These applications are distinct from software that is part of larger service offerings (e.g., Canvas for LMS or Zoom for web conferencing) and are evaluated for accessibility, security, and compliance to meet institutional needs. Any application used for university business (administration, teaching, or learning) that is not a codified part of an Enterprise Service like Google for Education, Canvas, Workday, etc must be reviewed for legal terms, accessibility, and data security and privacy
