Objective

  • To provide information about user age requirements on Google Workspace for Education accounts

Scope

  • Accounts created under Google Workspace for Education for users under the age of 18

Environment

  • 11357: Google Workspace for Education
  • 10710: Real-time Account Gen (RTAG)

Resolution

  • Users under the age of 18 have restrictions in the following Google services when they're signed-in to their Google Workspace for Education account:
    • YouTube
    • Google Search
      • SafeSearch is a user policy that helps filter most explicit content from Google Search results. Users under the age of 18 who are signed into Google Search with their Google Workspace for Education accounts have SafeSearch turned on by default across all browsers
    • Google Play
      • Google Workspace for Education users under the age of 18:
        • Can only see content rated Everyone, Everyone 10+, or Teen. For details, go to Apps & Games content ratings on Google Play
        • Can’t purchase Google Play content from the Apps & Games, Movies & TV, and Books categories
        • Can’t read or listen to sexually explicit books for Books on Google Play
    • Google Maps and Google Earth
      • Google Workspace for Education users under the age of 18 can't:
        • Access features that require payments
        • Create public posts, such as comments and reviews
        • Participate in Local Guides
        • Turn on Location History for their Google Workspace for Education account
        • Access Google Maps Timeline
        • Share their location
    • Google Photos
  • Certain services aren't available to users under the age of 18
