Remove viruses and malware from a University computer

Issue/Question

  • I think my office computer may have a virus
  • The admin account for our department has been hacked a few times this week. Could someone run anti-virus or malware software to see if the computers here have something monitoring them?

Environment

  • Viruses & Malware
  • University-owned Computer
  • Windows

Cause

  • A website displayed a message that said the computer was infected

Resolution

  1. Close any browser window that says that your computer has been infected
  2. Run a full virus scan using Windows Defender or your antivirus software
  3. If you suspect that there is still a virus on your computer, contact IT Help at 513-529-7900 to report your issue
  4. Provide the following information:
    • Your computer's location, including building name and room number
