Configuring AppPortal Applications and Desktops for iOS

Introduction

Miami's AppPortal technology streams applications to your computer or device, making the application appear as if it is running on your computer. To use this technology on your iOS device, you will need to install and configure the free application Microsoft Remote Desktop from the App Store or access it through your web browser.

You will need to either install and configure the Microsoft Remote Desktop app on your iOS device or access the AppPortal through a web browser. To get the iOS Microsoft Remote Desktop client, click the Configuring AppPortal Applications and Desktops for iOS button on this page.

    • The Microsoft Remote Desktop (RD Client) app is available from the Apple AppStore
  2. Tap the + icon in the upper right and select Add Workspace
  3. Tap Feed URL and enter https://AppPortal.MiamiOH.edu/RDWeb/feed/webfeed.aspx
Note: If copying this url, ensure there are no spaces at the end when you paste this text.
  4. Tap User Name to enter your Miami UniqueID and MUNet Password. Enter your Miami logon credentials as follows:
    • Enter IT\ followed by your Miami UniqueID. For example, if your UniqueID is doejd2 you would enter IT\doejd2.

  2. Navigate to https://AppPortal.MiamiOH.edu
  3. Enter your Miami logon credentials as follows: Enter IT\ followed by your Miami UniqueID. For example, if your UniqueID is doejd2 you would enter IT\doejd2.
  4. Enter your MUnet password and then click Sign In.
  5. Double click on the AppPortal App/Desktop to access
  6. If prompted allow access to local resources as desired
    • If clipboard is not selected, you will be unable to copy and paste between your device and the AppPortal App/Desktop

Note 1: Certain AppPortal Resources are not currently available through the web client due to additional security requirements. If the resources you need to access are not available from the web client, you must instead access them using the Microsoft Remote Desktop application. These specific applications will also require you to be either on campus or connected to VPN to access them.

Note 2: The web client has a major issue with iOS 13 and older. When launching a RemoteApp via the web browser on these OS versions, the ipad/iphone will either completely crash and reboot or crash to the lock screen. Affected users will need to instead use the Microsoft Remote Desktop app.
