SPSS 29

Introduction

IBM SPSS Statistics is a comprehensive, easy-to-use set of predictive analytic tools for business users, analysts, and statistical programmers.

More information on SPSS can be found here.

Capabilities, Benefits, and Key Features

  • Perform powerful analysis and easily build visualizations and reports through a point-and-click interface
  • Reduce data preparation time by identifying invalid values, viewing patterns of missing data, and summarizing variable distributions
  • Analyze large data sets and prepare data in a single step with automated data preparation
  • Run advanced and descriptive statistics, regression, and more with an integrated interface
  • Enhance SPSS syntax with R and Python using a library of extensions or by building your own
  • Store files and data on your computer rather than in the cloud with SPSS that’s installed locally

Limitations / Technology Requirements

Please ensure you are connected to MU-WIRELESS or if you are off-campus connected to MUVPN with Cisco AnyConnect before starting the installation and when using the application.

SPSS can be downloaded for both Mac and Windows.

What can I expect?

  • Support Tier: Tier 2 - Sponsor Support: If students were to contact IT Help, they refer the user to an individual sponsor, typically an instructor of a given course. The sponsor would work directly with the vendor on any unresolved issues.

  • Acquisition Model: Remote Access: Miami provisions a host for instructors or students to use to access the application. Installation of software to access that host may be required. In some cases, a secure (VPN) connection to Miami may be required.

  • Licensing Model: Site license: Miami has negotiated terms that allow for all current students and instructors to use the application.

  • Authentication Model: Miami Single-Sign-On (SSO): Uses Miami's identify and access management to authenticate the user as a current student or instructor.

Who may use it?

Through a site-licensed contract, students, faculty, and staff may use IBM SPSS on their personally owned computers while on the campus network or connected to MUVPN from an off-campus location.
