On a smartphone with Duo Mobile
Duo Security and MUIT recommend the use of a smartphone and the Duo Mobile app for the best experience in two-factor authentication
Follow these KB instructions to enroll a smartphone for use with Duo
Duo works with smartphones and the Duo Mobile app by supporting these authentication methods:
Duo Push (recommended)
You will receive a push notification for authentication — simply tap
Approve
in the app to approve the login request
Duo Passcode
You will receive a passcode that is generated through Duo Mobile on your device

Follow these KB instructions to enroll a mobile phone for use with Duo
Duo works with any mobile phone — a cell phone other than a smartphone or a smartphone without the Duo Mobile app — by supporting these authentication methods:
SMS text message (if your mobile phone can receive SMS text messages)
You will receive a text message from containing a six-digit passcode
Click the
Enter a Passcode
button, type in the passcode you received from Duo via text message, and click
Log In

It will be important to remember that if you replace your mobile phone you will need to use the original enrolled phone to authenticate into your Duo settings to unenroll the older device and then enroll the new phone.
On a YubiKey hardware device
MUIT recommends and supports the use of a YubiKey hardware device for U2F or OTP authentication with Duo

With the YubiKey inserted into the USB port of your authentication device, log in using your Miami credentials
When prompted for your second-factor authentication, simply tap your YubiKey to send a signed response to Duo to validate your request and automatically complete your login
