Banner 9 / Guide: Tips and tricks

Purpose

  • To provide a guide for the various tips and tricks that are available to Banner 9 users

Environment

  • Banner 9

Resolution 

Resizing browser size

  • Control + Shift + + (plus) = zoom in
  • Control + – (minus) = decrease zoom
  • Control + 0 (zero) = reset to 100%

 

Searching

  • Control + Home = search page names
  • Control + Shift + Y = invokes the search icon
  • Control + Y = list of forms used (unlimited)

 

Other common navigation

  • Control + M = main menu
  • Control + Shift + L = help
  • Control + Shift + F = sign out
  • Alt + page-down = replaces Control + page-down
  • Alt + page-up = replaces Control + page-up
  • F5 = rollback; replaces Shift + F7
  • F7 = filter (was Query)
  • Tools Alt + Shift + T = help, item properties
  • Related = like options menu; actions show up under Tools
  • Data Extract = under Tools; controls are in GUAUPRF (Shift + F1)
  • Next Tab = Control + Shift + 2
  • F4 = insert and duplicate row; replaces F6, F4
  • Alt + S = select from called page; replaces Shift + F3
  • Ellipsis on Field = like F9 or drop-down; looks up field values by displaying the appropriate validation table

 

Queries/Searches

  • Work more like Excel; can choose columns to include
    • Some pages have locked columns that can't be moved; select column, select operator, input data and press Go
  • Started queries are not blank boxes; presented as drop-downs with null and not null choices included; get immediate record count
  • Operators include: Contains, Like, Starts With, Ends With, Equals, and Not Equals
  • Wildcard: %

 

Other tips

  • Application Navigator is the landing page when logging in
  • The main menu shows Banner; it will only show My Banner if built
  • Forms are now pages
  • Blocks are now sections
  • From the Key Block section, next block is now GO
  • The login picture can be changed by the Administrator
  • Icons in the lower-left can be used for navigation
  • In the Key Block section, fields start as columns, then shrink to one line
  • Sections have action buttons, but several old keystrokes work
  • The page header is controlled with GUAUPRF
  • Notification Center gives more obvious information than the old auto-hint line
  • Required fields are indicated by an * (asterisk), and if not completed will be highlighted
  • User can switch from a single- to multi-record mode on some pages
  • Mouse over button labels to see keystroke shortcuts
  • Can control the page display name and this will be incorporated into SSB

 

No changes

  • Control + Q = cancel page, close page, cancel query, exit
  • Shift + F6 = delete record
  • F7 = start filter/query
  • F8 = execute filter/query
  • F6 = insert record
  • F9 = list of values
  • F10 = save
