Ethernet connection issues in my room

Issue/Question

  • The Internet is down and hasn’t been working for weeks in the room, especially when I tried wired
  • The Ethernet connection to the Internet will cut off for about 30 seconds to a minute
  • The Ethernet jacks on the access point in my room have all stopped working

Environment

  • 9583: Access Network
    • Wired Network
  • Miami University Residence Halls

Resolution

  1. Disable your computer’s Wi-Fi to confirm that you're using a wired connection
    • On a Mac, click the Wi-Fi icon and select Turn Wi-Fi Off
    • On a PC:
      1. Right-click on the wireless icon in the lower-right corner
      2. Click on Open Network and Sharing Center
      3. Click on Change Adapter Settings
      4. Right-click on your Wi-Fi adapter and select Disable
  2. Plug your laptop or computer into the D1 jack
    • Are you able to connect?
  3. Use a different Ethernet cable
