Read&Write / Install and use in Google Chrome

Objective

  • To provide information about and general instructions for the installation and use of Read&Write for Google Chrome

Scope

  • Read&Write for Google Chrome provides tools for the web and common file types accessed through Google Drive, including Google Docs, Google Slides, web pages, PDF files, and ePubs
  • Your Miami University premium subscription of Read&Write for Google Chrome allows access to OrbitNote, Texthelp's new PDF Reader, and supports ePub files in Google Drive

Resolution

Add Read&Write to Google Chrome

  1. Go to the Chrome Web Store
  2. Click the Add to Chrome button
  3. Confirm your action by clicking the Add extension button
  4. Look for the purple puzzle piece icon on your Chrome toolbar
  5. If you do not see the extension icon on your toolbar, click the gray Chrome puzzle piece icon to show extensions
  6. Locate Read&Write for Google Chrome and click the pin button

 

Notes

 

Use Read&Write in Google Docs and Google Slides

  1. Open a Google Doc or Google Slides document
  2. Look for a tab with the purple puzzle piece icon at the top of the document
  3. Click the icon to open the Read&Write toolbar
  4. To retract the Read&Write toolbar, click the up-arrow button on the right end of the toolbar

 

Use Read&Write on web pages

  1. Open a web page or new tab
  2. Click the extension icon on your Chrome toolbar to open the Read&Write floating toolbar
    • The Read&Write toolbar must be reopened any time you navigate to a new page or open a new tab
  3. To hide the Read&Write toolbar, click the X on the right end of the toolbar

 

Note

  • Read&Write for Google Chrome works with most web pages. If the floating toolbar does not appear or the purple puzzle piece icon is grayed out, you are on a web page that does not support the use of Read&Write for Google Chrome

 

Use Read&Write on PDFs and ePubs

  • Simply right-click on the PDF or ePub and choose Open with Read&Write
