Microsoft 365 / Purchase a personal subscription

Objective

• To provide instruction on purchasing a personal subscription of Microsoft 365  (formerly Office 365) software when:
  • Your Microsoft 365 software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) is unlicensed
  • You want to buy a personal subscription of Microsoft 365

Scope

• Effective 02 January 2019, Miami University will remove the Microsoft 365 license for all former Miami University students
  • This action affects all former Miami University students — Miami University does not maintain a license for Microsoft 365 for former Miami University students
• Within thirty days of license removal, the version of Microsoft 365 you installed through Miami will become unlicensed; and Microsoft 365 will enter into reduced functionality mode

Cause

• You want to continue to use Office applications by purchasing an Microsoft 365 license for personal use
• Microsoft offers a variety of Home and Personal plans from which to choose

Resolution

• You must use an email address other than your @miamioh.edu account — such as @gmail.com or @yahoo.com — when purchasing and activating your license for personal use
• Visit the Microsoft Office web site for purchasing options
