Access Kaltura recording / Canvas

Problem

• Where are Kaltura videos now that Media Gallery and My Media are not available in Canvas?
• How can I find my Kaltura course videos?

Resolution 

Access to the Kaltura video software and its content in Canvas ended on September 30, 2026. Available course and user media in Kaltura was migrated to Canvas Studio user libraries and updated in courses.

To locate your media:

User Media

If you created or uploaded the media to Kaltura, it should be accessible in your Studio library:

1. Click the Studio link from the Canvas Global Navigation 
2. Click the "My Library" drop-down to locate and view your media

Course Media

If the Kaltura media was embedded or added to a course, it should now be embedded as Studio media. To locate it as a course instructor:

1. Go to the original page, assignment, discussion, etc., to view the embedded video or audio
2. Click the Studio link in the specific course navigation to view the Course Collection
3. Once you've accessed the Studio link in the course, the course videos should also appear in your main Studio library (accessed via the Studio link in the Global Navigation Menu) under the Course Collections heading

Missing Kaltura videos

If you are missing user or course media that was previously in Kaltura, contact Miami Online for assistance:

1. Contact Miami Online by email at MiamiOnline@MiamiOH.edu or submit a solutions ticket and include:
   • Media title
   • Course and page where the content should be (include the page URL if possible)
   • Media owner (if possible)
2. Miami Online will search the Kaltura media archive for your requested file(s), and if successful, send you:
   • A link to the audio or video file (MP3, MP4, etc.), for you to download (or the direct link to the YouTube or Vimeo video)
   • A link for the caption file (SRT) for you to download
3. You can then add the media and caption files to Studio and embed the media back on the course page, assignment, discussion, etc. Once embedded, the media will carry over to new courses on future course imports
