LISTSERV / Assistance needed to modify configuration to restrict senders

Objective

  • To provide instruction on modifying your LISTSERV list configuration to restrict senders when:
    • You want to block messages sent by non-Miami users
    • You want to limit senders on your list to Miami users only
    • You want to limit senders on your list to users with a Miami email address (@miamioh.edu or @muohio.edu)
  • To obtain assistance with modifying your LISTSERV list configuration

User

  • LISTSERV List Owner

Environment

  • 10283: LISTSERV

Resolution

  • The keyword Filter can be added to a LISTSERV list header and edited to specify how filtered address patterns should be applied, as follows:
    • Also – If you want the addresses or patterns entered to be in addition to the default filters set up for the whole server (recommended)
    • Only – If you want to replace the default filters
    • Safe – If you want to use the safe filter
  1. Go to Miami's LISTSERV portal
  2. Wait for the LISTSERV dashboard for your account to load — this can take several minutes
  3. Open the LISTSERV Management utility
  4. Select List Configuration
  5. Select Manual List Configuration
  6. In the Select list section, click the alphabetic cluster that contains the list you want to configure
  7. Select the list from the results
  8. In the list header, look for the following keyword and text: Filter= Safe
  9. Change the text to Filter= Also,*@miamioh.edu,*@muohio.edu
  10. Click Save
    • Ignore the English template error — the new configuration setting will still be saved
