Google Drive / Assistance needed to recover a lost file

Objective

  • To obtain assistance in recovering a lost file from Google Drive when:
    • You moved a file in Google Drive and now cannot find it — you want to restore the file
    • You want to restore your Team Drive

Environment

  • 10259: Google Drive 
  • Team Drive

Rationale

  • Only a Google administrator can restore files that were permanently deleted recently. If the entire Team Drive was deleted, an administrator can also restore the Team Drive and its contents
    • You can only restore items that were permanently deleted up to approximately 25 days ago — items are permanently deleted after 30 days in the Team Drive trash

Resolution

  1. If you are a Google administrator, follow the instructions in this Google Administrator Help article to restore recently deleted files or a Team Drive
  2. If you are not a Google administrator, contact IT Help by phone at 513-529-7900 or by live chat at MiamiOH.edu/ITChat for assistance
  3. Provide the following information:
    • Name of the lost file
    • Name of the folder that contained the file
    • Date and time of the incident or loss
