Grackle Workspace / Guide

Objective

  • To provide an introduction to and installation instructions for Grackle Workspace

Scope

  • Grackle Workspace is a collection of extensions (add-ons) that improves the accessibility of the output from Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Google Slides
    • Grackle for Google Docs performs 22 accessibility checks and allows you to export to PDF
    • Grackle for Google Sheets performs 13 checks and allows you to export to HTML
    • Grackle for Google Slides performs 16 checks and allows you to export to PDF

Environment

Prerequisites

  • Miami University has licensed Grackle Workspace for the entire institution. To take advantage of this tool, you must meet the following requirements:
    • You must be a current or active student, faculty, or staff member
    • You must be logged into your Miami Google account, and it must be the default account in the active web browser session

Associated Procedures

Install Grackle for Google Docs, Sheets, or Slides

Each add-on must be installed separately.

  1. Open or create a Google Doc, Google Sheets spreadsheet, or Google Slides presentation in Miami's Google Workspace
  2. Click Extensions, then Add-Ons, then Get Add-Ons — the Google Workspace Marketplace opens
  3. In the search bar, search for Grackle
  4. Select the item you want, then click Install
  5. Follow the onscreen directions to complete the installation

 

Use Grackle add-ons

  1. Open or create a Google Doc, Google Sheets spreadsheet, or Google Slides presentation in Miami's Google Workspace
  2. From the Extensions menu, locate the Grackle add-on, and click Launch. The Grackle add-on will evaluate and display results
  3. Follow guidance to fix errors
  4. Re-evaluate your content until you are satisfied with the results

 

Note

  • To ensure your content meets digital accessibility requirements, it is recommended that you also perform a manual check (read and review the document to verify color use, double-check reading order, avoid generic links, etc.)
