Objective
- To provide information about and general instructions for the installation and use of Read&Write for Google Chrome and other apps
Scope
- Read&Write for Google Chrome provides tools for the web and common file types accessed through Google Drive, including Google Docs, Google Slides, web pages, and ePubs
- Your Miami University subscription of Read&Write for Google Chrome allows access to OrbitNote, Texthelp's PDF Reader, and supports ePub files in Google Drive

Resolution
Add Read&Write to Google Chrome
- Go to the Chrome Web Store and search for Read&Write for Google Chrome
- Click the Add to Chrome button
- Confirm your action by clicking the Add extension button
- Look for the purple puzzle piece icon on your Chrome toolbar
- If you do not see the extension icon on your toolbar, click the gray Chrome puzzle piece icon to show extensions
- Locate Read&Write for Google Chrome and click the pin button
Note: To uninstall the extension, return to the Chrome Web Store and click Remove from Chrome
Add OrbitNote to Google Chrome
- Go to the Chrome Web Store and search for OrbitNote.
- Click the Add to Chrome button
- Confirm your action by clicking the Add extension button
- Look for the OrbitNote icon on your Chrome toolbar
- If you do not see the extension icon on your toolbar, click the gray Chrome puzzle piece icon to show extensions
- Locate OrbitNote and click the pin button
Note: To uninstall the extension, return to the Chrome Web Store and click Remove from Chrome
Use Read&Write in Google Docs and Google Slides
- Open a Google Doc or Google Slides document
- Look for a tab with the purple puzzle piece icon at the top of the document
- Click the icon to open the Read&Write toolbar
- To retract the Read&Write toolbar, click the up-arrow button on the right end of the toolbar
Use Read&Write on web pages
- Open a web page or new tab
- Click the extension icon on your Chrome toolbar to open the Read&Write floating toolbar
- The Read&Write toolbar must be reopened any time you navigate to a new page or open a new tab
- To hide the Read&Write toolbar, click the X on the right end of the toolbar
Notes
- Read&Write for Google Chrome works with most web pages. The toolbar will not appear on PDFs; use OrbitNote instead
