Read&Write for Google Chrome / Install and use in Google Chrome

Objective

  • To provide information about and general instructions for the installation and use of Read&Write for Google Chrome and other apps

Scope

  • Read&Write for Google Chrome provides tools for the web and common file types accessed through Google Drive, including Google Docs, Google Slides, web pages, and ePubs
  • Your Miami University subscription of Read&Write for Google Chrome allows access to OrbitNote, Texthelp's PDF Reader, and supports ePub files in Google Drive

Resolution

Add Read&Write to Google Chrome

  1. Go to the Chrome Web Store and search for Read&Write for Google Chrome
  2. Click the Add to Chrome button
  3. Confirm your action by clicking the Add extension button
  4. Look for the purple puzzle piece icon on your Chrome toolbar
  5. If you do not see the extension icon on your toolbar, click the gray Chrome puzzle piece icon to show extensions
  6. Locate Read&Write for Google Chrome and click the pin button

Note: To uninstall the extension, return to the Chrome Web Store and click Remove from Chrome

 

Add OrbitNote to Google Chrome

  1. Go to the Chrome Web Store and search for OrbitNote.
  2. Click the Add to Chrome button
  3. Confirm your action by clicking the Add extension button
  4. Look for the OrbitNote icon on your Chrome toolbar
  5. If you do not see the extension icon on your toolbar, click the gray Chrome puzzle piece icon to show extensions
  6. Locate OrbitNote and click the pin button

Note: To uninstall the extension, return to the Chrome Web Store and click Remove from Chrome

 

Use Read&Write in Google Docs and Google Slides

  1. Open a Google Doc or Google Slides document
  2. Look for a tab with the purple puzzle piece icon at the top of the document
  3. Click the icon to open the Read&Write toolbar
  4. To retract the Read&Write toolbar, click the up-arrow button on the right end of the toolbar

 

Use Read&Write on web pages

  1. Open a web page or new tab
  2. Click the extension icon on your Chrome toolbar to open the Read&Write floating toolbar
    • The Read&Write toolbar must be reopened any time you navigate to a new page or open a new tab
  3. To hide the Read&Write toolbar, click the X on the right end of the toolbar

 

Notes

  • Read&Write for Google Chrome works with most web pages. The toolbar will not appear on PDFs; use OrbitNote instead
