Purpose and Scope
To prepare for proper coordination of vital functions when circumstances require the emergency closing of campus, certain designated personnel will be required to report for work to operate the campus in a minimal but safe manner, in accordance with University policy 3.29. Employees so designated will be referred to herein and in the enclosures as weather emergency staff.
Policy
When extreme weather conditions prevail, the President (or his/her designated representative) may "close a campus". If this action is taken, only those employees listed as weather emergency staff should report for work. Those weather emergency staff employees required to report for work will receive their regular rate of pay during their regular shift, plus the adverse weather premium pay.
Procedures
Notification of official temporary closings of campuses will be communicated by the News Bureau. Any time weather conditions make it necessary to cancel work schedules, such information will be communicated as follows:
a) Local media outlets (radio and television)
b) Miami University Main Web Page (http://miamioh.edu)
c) Emergency Text Messaging System Alerts (must sign up for text alerts at Miami University Police web page)
Weather emergency staff should report as soon as possible, unless otherwise noted. Employees who cannot make it to work, but who have notified the University that they will not be in, may or may not be disciplined for their absence, depending on the circumstance.
