SOP #760: Walking and Campus Transportation

Purpose and Scope

To formalize a department policy prioritizing walking on campus while outlining other campus transportation options for work-related purposes.

Policy

In 2020, President Crawford signed the Presidents’ Climate Leadership Commitment (PCLC), which committed Miami to achieve carbon neutrality and climate action.  Thus, we must significantly reduce and eliminate our use of fossil fuel usage for transportation purposes on the Oxford campus.  Walking should be the first choice for travel on Miami’s campus for business purposes. In lieu of walking, the Solar Powered Golf Cart (or electric vehicles, when they become available) should be used.  Miami University also offers free bus service for all employees through BCRTA.  When tools or other equipment must be transported to fulfill a job responsibility, PFD-provided vehicles may be used for business purposes only.  During regular business hours (7:00 am to 4:00 pm), gas-powered pooled vehicles should only be used for off-campus travel or when tools/equipment that cannot be carried must be transported within campus.

Procedure

General Transportation  Rules:

  1. Priority of acceptable modes of on-campus transportation:
    • Walking
