Purpose and Scope
To formalize a Departmental policy regarding the promotion of safety awareness. All employees of the Physical Facilities Department are hereby covered by this policy. The principal staff will provide the leadership necessary to ensure that an effective safety awareness program is being accomplished within the department.
Policy
All supervisory and planning/scheduling personnel are expected to attend the Supervisor Safety Meeting conducted monthly by the Physical Facilities Safety Coordinator. This meeting will be used to discuss any work related injuries and Physical Facilities safety issues.
Additionally, each Physical Facilities Division will provide a 30-minute safety briefing to their employees at departmental monthly meetings. This is the responsibility of the first line supervisor with assistance from the principal staff member and Physical Facilities Safety Coordinator. The Physical Facilities Safety Coordinator will serve as coordinator for dissemination of all safety literature, training materials, safety information and information pertinent to Federal, State, University and PFD safety laws and regulations currently in effect and future requirements as necessary.
Work Unit Safety Meeting Procedure
1. Each supervisor is responsible for conducting the monthly safety meeting, maintaining an attendance list for all employees within the assigned area, and submitting a copy to the Physical Facilities Safety Coordinator by the last day of that month. This list must contain the following information as a minimum: Employee name, date of safety briefing, Personal Protective Equipment check, and topic of safety briefing.
2. Topics will be provided by the Facilities Safety Coordinator, but can be changed and supplemented by the supervisor if pertinent safety issues arise. A review of all safety related SOP’s should be completed annually by each PFD supervisor.
3. Employees are responsible for attending all scheduled safety briefings and must initial attendance log. Make-up briefings will be scheduled to ensure all employees receive/understand this important information.
