Objective
- To provide instruction on locating the MAC address for an iOS device
Environment
- 10139: Wi-Fi Network
- Network Registration
- iOS Device
Rationale
- All network interfaces have a unique media access control identifier (MAC address) used for communication purposes on a network. You might be asked to locate and provide the MAC address of a computer or other device when you, for example, register a computer for access to the network
- Your device may have more than one MAC address, if you have both wired and wireless interfaces
- The format for a MAC address (also called a physical address or Ethernet hardware address) is 12 alphanumeric characters, usually separated by colons: XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX
Resolution
- Beginning with iOS 14, iPadOS 14, and watchOS 7, private Wi-Fi addressing is enabled. To find the MAC address your Wi-Fi connection is using, you need to review the More info of your connection
- On your iOS device, tap Settings
- Tap Wi-Fi
- Tap the More info icon (letter "i" in a circle) next to your current Wi-Fi connection
- If Private Wi-Fi Address is turned on, the MAC address your device is using is listed by Wi-Fi Address in the format of XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX
- If your device is using an older version of the operating system, or if Private Wi-Fi addressing is disabled, use these instructions to find your MAC address
- On your iOS device, tap Settings
- Tap General
- Tap About
- On the About screen, look for the Wi-Fi Address in the format: XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX
