Objective
- To provide instruction on installing Windows App and configuring AppPortal apps in macOS when:
- You want to download and install Microsoft Remote Desktop for macOS
- You want the AppPortal on your Mac
- You want to configure AppPortal apps for macOS
Environment

Resolution
Access Miami's AppPortal through your web browser
- Open Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, or Firefox web browser (Safari is not recommended).
- Navigate to https://AppPortal.MiamiOH.edu
- Enter your Miami login credentials as follows: Enter IT\ followed by your Miami UniqueID. For example, if your UniqueID is doejd2 you would enter IT\doejd2
- Enter your MUnet password and then click Sign In
- Double-click on the AppPortal App/Desktop to access
- If prompted, allow access to local resources as desired
- If the clipboard is not selected, you will be unable to copy and paste between your computer and the AppPortal App/Desktop
- DUO is required when launching an APP/Desktop
- For an application:
- If you receive DUO pushes, approve the DUO response on your device
- If you enter a passcode for DUO, click Show Details when available and enter your passcode
- For a desktop:
- If you receive DUO pushes, approve the DUO response on your device when DUO appears
- If you enter a passcode for DUO, enter your passcode when DUO appears
Note: Certain AppPortal Resources are not currently available through the web interface due to additional security requirements. If the resources you need to access are not available from the web client, you can access them using the Microsoft Remote Desktop application. These specific applications will also require you to be either on-campus or connected to VPN to access them.
Download and install Windows App for macOS
On a managed University computer
- Press Command + Space to open Spotlight Search
- Enter Self Service in the Spotlight search field
- When Self Service opens, enter Windows App in the search field in the upper left
- Alternately, browse the Featured section displayed in the left sidebar to locate Microsoft Remote Desktop
- When the results are displayed, click the Install button under Microsoft Remote Desktop
On a personal computer
- Press Command + Space to open Spotlight Search
- Enter App Store in the Spotlight search field
- Sign in to the App Store with your Apple ID
- Enter Windows App in the App Store search field
- Follow the prompts to download and install Microsoft Remote Desktop
Configure AppPortal in Windows App
- Launch Microsoft Remote Desktop
- Click the plus-symbol (+) Select Add Workspace
- Enter https://AppPortal.MiamiOH.edu in the Email or workspace URL field
- If copying this URL, be sure there are no spaces at the end when you paste this text
- Click the drop-down next to User Account and select Add User Account
- Enter IT\<your Miami UniqueID> (ex: IT\doejd2)
- Enter your MUnet password
- Click Add to complete Add a User
- Click Add to complete Add Workspace
- Choose from the list of applications and desktops that have been provisioned for your account
- Double-click the application or desktop to connect

Notes
- Administrative application access: Access to some applications (e.g., course enrollment, membership in departmental groups) requires authorization. The following list implies the parameters that provide network access, but not necessarily authorization to use the applications:
- Native Banner: Available only on wired professional networks or through AdminVPN with special access
- Effective in v10.3.4 of Microsoft Remote Desktop 10 as of 10/29/2019
- Feeds are now referred to as Workspaces, and Desktops as PCs
