Create an assignment or discussion for a group / Canvas

Problem

Resolution

• Before assigning an assignment and/or discussion to a group, you should create a group set (e.g., Project Groups, Inquiry Groups, Marketing Teams, etc.), create individual groups (Group 1, Team 1, etc.), and add students to each group. You can do this by manually creating a group set and adding groups and students, or creating the group set and groups at the same time. Refer to the following Canvas Guides

• Once your groups are created, you can then assign an assignment and/or discussion to your groups:

    • By default, graded assignments assign the same grade to all students in the group. To grade students in each group individually, you can enable the option in the group assignment settings

    • Note that graded group discussions are only graded individually. The group designation determines how and whom students will view and reply to in the discussion
