Objective
To provide instruction on troubleshooting connection issues:
For a University-owned computer connected to the wired network
For a University-owned computer connected to the wired network through a desk phone
When an established wired connection seems to be inactive
Environment

Resolution
Restart your computer
If you are using a Cisco phone with the computer, make sure the phone is securely plugged into the D-1 data wall jack
Make sure the Ethernet cable is securely plugged into the switch port on the back of the phone
If you are
not
using a Cisco phone with the computer, make sure the Ethernet cable is securely plugged into the D-1 jack. Follow the network cable (usually blue) from the back of the computer to the network jack on the wall to make sure it is connected
Make sure the Ethernet cable is securely plugged into the back of the computer
Restart the computer
On a macOS computer, select the
Apple menu
and select
Restart
On a Windows computer, select the
Windows
button, click the arrow next to
Shut Down
, and select
Restart
