Canvas / Unable to upload a document
Body
Problem
- Why am I unable to upload a document to Canvas?
- Why can't I add a file to my Canvas course?
Resolution
Canvas File Quotas
- Canvas has a maximum upload limit of 500 MB for media files. This limit cannot be increased
- Miami Canvas courses have a storage quota of 1 GB (twice the default Canvas course limit). This limit cannot be increased. If you are trying to add files to a course as an instructor and the storage quota has been met, you will need to either delete unused files and/or use another method to share content, such as uploading files to Google Drive and sharing the link in the course
Restricted Assignment Submission Type
- If an instructor has restricted the file type that a student may submit to an assignment, the accepted file type will be listed in the assignment details, e.g., doc, docx, pdf, etc. Students must submit one of the accepted file types:
- Your assignment may not be open for submissions. If you are unable to access submission options, review the unable to access or submit assignment KB article
