Canvas / Access guest account

Objective

• To provide instruction on accessing a guest account in Canvas when:
  • You are a non-Miami student who is taking a Miami course, but can't log in to Canvas
  • You need to change your Canvas guest password
• Users registered for a Miami University Professional Education course should refer to the KB article for accessing Canvas Catalog

Resolution

1. Check with the course instructor or coordinator to ensure that they have added your non-MU account to the Canvas course
2. If accessing the course for this first time, use the link in Canvas course invitation email to create your guest account
   • Note: The link in the email will not work after the first use — follow Step 3 to log in
3. If returning to the course, use the Canvas Guest login page to access your course. You may wish to bookmark this page for future use
   • If your password is not working, select the Forgot Password? link and follow the prompts to reset your Canvas password
     • Your "Miami University-Login" is the email address you used to enroll in the course
     • Guest accounts do not use Miami's CAS authentication for single sign-on. Miami IT Services cannot reset guest passwords

• Miami Online offers Canvas training
  • Office hours and support will be offered throughout each term. Look for an announcement in Canvas and an email to all faculty
