Canvas / Manually add Inclusive Access textbook

Objective

• Any instructor whose online course is registered with the bookstore’s Inclusive Access program should automatically have a Canvas Module and Page called “Course Materials.”  If this Module and Page are missing, follow the Resolution Steps to manually add it.

Instructions 

1. In your Canvas course, select the Modules link in the Course Navigation.
2. In the Module where you’d like to add the Inclusive Access link, select the + button.
3. In the Add [Item Type] To: drop-down menu, select External Tool.
4. Find the VitalSource external tool and review the following:
   1. URL: This will prepopulate based on how the LTI External App was configured.
   2. Page Name: This will prepopulate based on the name of the LTI External App, but it can be edited to your preferred title.
   3. Load in a new tab: We recommend checking this box, but it is not required.
5. Select Add Item

Notes

• The Course Materials module and page should be added and active by the Wednesday before the course start date
  • If you see the Course Materials module and page, but receive an error message that there is no material associated with your course, wait until 1-2 weeks before the start date
  • If the error persists, contact IASupport@ecampus.com
• The instructor can use the module and page to:
  • Access the Bookstore Textbook Portal (also called VitalSource or FRAME) Instructor Dashboard
• Students can use the module and page to:
  • Access their digital textbook for the course
  • Opt-out (or Opt-in) to Inclusive Access textbooks
• If you have any questions about or encounter issues with the Course Materials module and page or the Inclusive Access program, contact IASupport@ecampus.com.
  • Miami Online does not manage this program nor its interaction with Canvas
• Manually adding this link may result in a duplicate link being automatically placed by the system
  • This will not cause any issues, and both links will function properly
• If your textbook is linked to Courseware (like Cengage, Macmillan, McGraw-Hill, Norton, Pearson, or WileyPLUS) additional steps are needed to connect your textbook to your courseware
