Guidelines

Miami University provides a number of computer accounts (referred to as MUnet accounts) to enable access to electronic resources. Different account types have different service features and may require different support.

Standard accounts

All Miami students, faculty and staff receive a standard MUnet account. A standard account provides access to email, the wireless network and other services commonly used around the University.

Courtesy accounts

In approved circumstances, a person not directly affiliated with Miami may need access to University systems. In these cases, an authorized individual may sponsor a courtesy account. Courtesy accounts have all the same characteristics as a standard MUnet account, but expire after one year if not renewed.

Accepted Student accounts

Miami provides accounts to accepted students facility communication during the application process. These accounts are limited to first-year, Oxford students applying to a fall term. Accepted student account access is limited to the myMiami portal and a small number of related systems. Access is removed at the end of the application process.

Family Member accounts

Miami students may choose to share select information with non-Miami individuals through a family member account. Family member accounts use a personal email address as the username and are limited to myMiami and a few related services.

Community accounts

Community accounts allow non-Miami individuals access to limited Miami resources. Community accounts use a personal email address as the username and expire after one year if not renewed.

Entity accounts

Entity accounts represent a department, group or other arbitrary entity within the University. They are not associated with a specific individual user. The username is an arbitrary value which meets established guidelines. Entity accounts expire after one year if not renewed.
